Lake Hopatcong, NJ - July 18th, 10
                            CLOSE COMPETITION at HOPATCONG

The second New Jersey Bass Federation point event of the season was held on the State’s largest lake, Lake Hopatcong, on July 18, 2010.  Under sweltering temperatures and amid the voluminous pleasure craft, 98 anglers proved that the lake can produce quality numbers of fish.  When the dust cleared, both the Boater and Co-Angler Divisions provided for among the more closely contested finishes in recent memory.

Boater Division

The Boater Division was taken by Wally Peer, whose victory was his first with the Federation.  Peer, a member of Blazin Bass, took the victory by only .04 pounds, which is just more than one-half ounce.  In doing so, he brought a five-fish limit to the scales which totaled 13.64 pounds.  For defeating the other 67 Boaters in the Boater Division, Peer collected the Boater Division first prize of $1,350.

Finishing second in the Boater Division was none other than Federation Webmaster Elliot Liardo.  Liardo, from Linden, New Jersey and a member of the Central New Jersey Bassmasters, just narrowly missed taking first prize by posting a five-fish limit weighing 13.60 pounds, worth $1,080.  Further back in third place was the always dangerous Rich Schneidereit.  Schneidereit, from Medford, New Jersey and a member of the Clearwater Bassmasters rebounded from a relatively poor Candlewood event by posting a five fish limit weighing 12.30 pounds, for which he received $742.

The remainder of the Boater Division top finishers were as follows: Jim Beatty, from Fayetteville, Pennsylvania and a member of the Mega Bass 6 with 12.26 pounds, worth $540; Scott Weiland, from Saddle Brook, New Jersey with 11.96 pounds, worth $472; and Bill Kanwisher, from Ramsey, New Jersey, and a member of the Back to Back Bassmasters, with 11.92 pounds, worth $337.  Kanwisher also caught the Boater Division lunker, a 5.58 pound largemouth, worth an additional $315.

Co-Angler Division

The 30 Co-Anglers that participated in the event produced good numbers of bass, although their weights were relatively low.  Regardless, the competition proved fierce with the winner taking the event by only three ounces.  Coming out on top, with three fish weighing 8.12 pounds was Jerry Conley.  Conley, who is a member of the Warren County Bassmasters, also weighed in a beautiful 4.04 pound smallmouth, which just missed taking the Co-Angler lunker.  For his Co-Angler Division victory, Conley received $650.

Finishing just behind Conley in second with five fish totaling 7.94 pounds was Roy Greismeyer.  Greismeyer, from Somerset, New Jersey, and a member of the K.O.B.A. chapter, received $520 for his second place finish.  Narrowly finishing third was Al Hudson, another K.O.B.A. member.  Hudson weighed in a five fish limit totaling 7.86 pounds and received $359.

The remainder of the Co-Angler winners included: Chris Palmer with five fish weighing 7.80 pounds, worth $260; Federation Tournament Director Al Purdy from Newfield, New Jersey and a member of the Over the Ridge Bassmasters with 6.98 pounds, worth $227; and Marc Goldberg, from Jackson, New Jersey, and a member of the Bass Kickers with 6.66 pounds, worth $162.  Joe Sodora, from Garfield, New Jersey weighed in the 4.08 pound Co-Angler lunker winning largemouth and received $140.
