2010 “Reel Kids” Casting Events
As in past years, the New Jersey Bass Federation organized numerous “Reel Kids” Casting Events again this year. If you ever wondered why our organization runs these events, well the answer is simple … our goal is to get children interested in fishing and by doing so we hope that all of the children who participate in these events will one day become as enthusiastic and passionate about fishing as we are.
During these events, children of all ages are given one-on-one, hands-on instruction in the lure presentation techniques of flipping, pitching and casting. For many children, these events serve as an introduction to fishing. For others, it is a way to learn different lure presentation techniques. No matter what the fishing experience level of a child may be before participating in a casting event, the end result is always the same … every child leaves knowing more about fishing than they did before and, best of all, they leave with a huge smile on their face.
Two casting events held this year were run by members of two of the Federation’s Youth Chapters. In March, Next Generation Junior Bassmasters ran a two-day event at the NJ Fish & Game Spring Festival held at the Pequest Trout Hatchery in Hackettstown, NJ. In September, Riggin-N-Jiggin Junior Bassmasters ran a two-day event at the NJ Fish & Game Wild Outdoors Expo held at the Assunpink Wildlife Management area. In addition to running the casting events, both Youth Chapters sold new and slightly used fishing related items to raise money for their respective chapters. Both events were a huge success and the Youth Chapters members are to be commended for a job well done.
Some of the other casting events were held at Father Time in Keansburg, NJ and the Boy Scout Camp in Hibernia, NJ, as well as at the sportsmen’s shows in Edison, NJ, Somerset, NJ, and Suffern, NY.
Finally, thanks to all the people who volunteered to help at the events. Without your help the Federation would not be able to hold these events.
