                                            Minutes of March 13, 2009 Federation meeting.

The meeting was called to order at 8:06 p.m. by Vice President Mike Hart. President Going and Recording Secretary Nick Angiulo were absent due to their participation in the TBF Nationals.
The following chapters were not in attendance: Bass Assassin Six; Blazin Bass; Clearwater Bassmasters; Cullin' Bass Six; First Generation; Hawg Heaven; Northern NJ; Quickfire; Tri-state.
Minutes from the February 13, 2009 Federation meeting were read by Secretary Bruce Stovall. The minutes were accepted via motion/second.
Treasury Report was read by Treasurer Jim Bartolotto. The Treasury Report was accepted via motion/second.
Treasurer Jim Bartolotto provided a synopsis of the fisheries forum that he and Conservation Director Phillip Bartolotto attended at Barsto Village Visitors Center conducted February 28th ,  2009. Topics discussed included: Habitat enhancement project for Spruce Run Reservoir, status of Lake Audrey as a premier Smallmouth fishery, WMA Tournament permits: If your club receives a permit please fulfill your obligation to file the creel census report afterwards. (2008, 132 permits issued only 40 census reports were filed) This data is important in order to effectively manage future fisheries. Invasive Species, northern snakehead are in the Delaware and Schuykill rivers, if you catch one contact Division of Fish and wildlife. The Asian Swamp Eel has been found in Silver Lake, removal options are electro shocking and rotenone. Flathead Catfish are in the Delaware, if you catch one, do not return it to the water, contact Division of Fish and Wildlife, for more info, go to url: <http://www.state.nj.us/dep/newsrel/2004/04/099.htm> New Jersey Anglers Sale of resident freshwater fishing licenses are down from 252,475 in 1991 to 161,456 in 2008. This is a serious decline, and affects what Division of Fish and Wildlife can do to improve the fisheries in New Jersey. Most fishing licenses issued to 45-50 year age group. Take a kid fishing the future of our sport depends on it!
VP Mike Hart praised Elliot Liardo for his voluntary efforts in developing and maintaining our new website. Additionally, VP Hart expressed the boards gratitude to Mr. Mike Kozub for his many years of providing and maintaining NJBF website services. The floor was passed to Mr. Liardo and he explained how folks could contact any board member through the website by simply clicking the link next to the individual name. He also explained that there is quite a bit of historical information now available on the site.  Clubs, please contact Elliot with club contact updates as some of the information he has is not current. VP Hart recognized Mr. Joe Poms to give a show report. Joe expressed his thanks to all of the volunteers that turned out for the Suffern Show. You know who you are and from the Board, Thank you for your dedication and support to our Federation. Joe, stated that the Bass Casting Challenge was true success with 13 qualifying for the final. First place went to Chris Lechman. This event generated $358.00 for the Youth fisherman of our federation.
He also discussed the upcoming Somerset Saltwater Show (3/21-3/22) as well as the Pequest Show scheduled for 4/4-4/5. Joe is looking for volunteers to conduct a 45 minute lecture for Bass fishing. Interested members please contact Joe ASAP.
VP Hart recognized Executive Officer/Youth Director Forest Honeywell to give a Youth report. Forest echoed Joe’s sentiments for the volunteers at the Suffern Show and is also looking for volunteers to support the upcoming shows. For details contact Forest. He then expressed the importance of getting more kids involved with fishing.
VP Hart announced the 2010 Tournament committee as follows: Dave Frost - Chairman, Doug Peabody, Guy Giadarno, and Mark Goldberg. He encouraged them to exchange contact information and get the ball rolling to determine next year’s lakes and dates.
VP Hart recognized Nick Albano to update the membership on the Hudson River Challenge tournament that Bergen Bassmasters is facilitating for the USO. The tournament is scheduled for 27 September 2009, and will be conducted from the Catskill NY ramp. He has begun selling raffle tickets for numerous prizes. The proceeds from this tournament will go to the USO to support our troops. A $1000.00 Lunker prize (1 Largemouth & 1 Smallmouth) for the event is provided by Orange County Choppers, lunkers must be released alive in order to receive the money. For details click on events radial button at the top of this website. VP Hart thanked Nick and his club for all of the hard work that has gone into bringing this event all together.
VP Hart recognized Tournament Director Al Purdy, who discussed the upcoming Team Tournament scheduled for Kerr Reservoir, Official practice days are Monday-Wednesday (3-6 May), Tournament days are Thursday & Friday (7 & 8 May). Participants were reminded that they must obey all NJBF Team tournament rules during official practice days and the tournament. The pre-tournament meeting will be conducted at the Best Western, Wednesday evening between 4-6 pm. All boats must be off the water by 3 pm that day. Al stated that the back-up boat draw list will be put together at the April Federation meeting so if your club is bringing extra boats to the tournament, you should let him know how many extra boats your club will have just in case he needs them. Make sure that boat insurance is not expired during the tournament dates.  The following clubs did not submit a final roster for the team tournament: Bass Assassin Six; Blazin Bass; Cullin' Bass Six; First Generation; Hawg Heaven; Northern NJ; Sunrise; and Tri-state. Contact Secretary Stovall or TD Al Purdy immediately if your club intends to fish the team event.
Al also indicated that tournament applications are beginning to come in for the Susquehanna Flats first event 26 April (application deadline is April 10th). Remember to have your license and boaters safety card as they will be randomly checked. Anyone receiving a payout at the tournament will also have to show their license.          
Secretary Bruce Stovall indicated that there are many Federation members who renewed their FLW memberships on-line and received a new FLW number. This is an issue in the FLW system. Call Patty at FLW to merge the new number and the old number so that your membership shows up as current in the TBF system. A reminder, members must be current FLW members in order to fish any Federation event.
VP Hart is the keeper of the 81 Evinrude, $100 certificates being sold for mere $50.00 each. See him if you are interested in purchasing them. He reminded members that, proceeds go towards 2009 tournament payouts.
A motion was made and seconded to adjourn the meeting at 8.46 p.m.
