The Tournament Report was given by Tournament Director Al Purdy.  Al stated that the Team Tournament was a great success and the State Team qualifiers were Manny Cruz, Mike Keller and Aaron Melnick as Boaters; and Chris Pentz, John Carpenter and Mike McMahon as Co-anglers.  He noted that Manny Cruz’ victory was his second in a row.  He also stated that United won the event for the second year in a row; followed by Big D in second and Bass Busters in third.  He recapped the recent Candlewood Lake event including the success of the split launch.  In this regard, he thanked Forest and Dorothy Honeywell for running the launch out of Lattins Cove as well as the several Federation members, including Joe Belardo; Gary Harral; Bob Kyriacos and others, for assisting at that ramp.  Al also stated that the Connecticut DEP has asked him to help them redesign the Squantz Cove ramp to be more fishing friendly.  He asked if there are any Federation members who would be willing to assist him.  For the upcoming Lake Hopatcong event, June 26 is the application deadline and there is ample water in the lake.  Tony thanked Al for his work up at Candlewood making the event run successfully.  Member Doug Peabody added that the split launch at Candlewood worked very well.

Executive Officer/Youth Director Forest Honeywell indicated that September 19 will be the Junior State Qualifier and he asked for volunteers to be Boat Captains and photography boats.

Environmental Director P.J. Bartolotto thanked Bob Rieder, a college student at Ramapo College, for his help in organizing the Ramapo College fishing team, which should be up and running by September.  He also stated he will post information about a Cumberland County 4H project by kids who are building used fishing line recycle canisters, which they will sell to clubs and place at lakes.  P.J. further indicated that he will be meeting with a Ramapo professor about trying to convince the State to allow a study on using the land it owns on Greenwood Lake as a ramp facility.

Tony indicated that the South Hill Chamber of Commerce was not too happy with the Federation not extensively using its hotel and restaurant facilities; which may impact how much it gives the Federation to fish there in the future.  He stated this happened since many Team Tournament anglers/clubs secured rental houses and did not have a need for local hotels, stores or restaurants.

Tony stated that he has two new Lowrance DHS 5X color graphs that will be sold for $400 each and a black and white graph that will be sold for $200.  Also, he indicated that the Evinrude certificates that the Federation received will be used to purchase Mustang PFDs; which it will then sell to the membership.  The sales price will be in the $100 to $125 range, which is a significant savings.

Tony described the new Berkley tackle program, which includes Abu Garcia, Fenwick, Stren and Spiderwire brands as well as Berkley products.  A club can get 30% off merchandise, but the order must be made as a club, and there are limitations.  Tony stated that he should be contacted for further information but he urged clubs to take advantage of the promotion.

Tony indicated that member Kevin Kuriawa is the local Solar Bat representative and will be at a future meeting selling sunglasses at a significant discount.

Tony informed the membership of the untimely passing of member Bob Kowitski.

Tony also informed the membership of the bankruptcy filing of Genmar Boats and Irwin Jacobs (owner of FLW Outdoors), the main sponsor of the TBF.  He stated that the TBF is healthy enough to continue and thrive regardless; although, he was confident that Jacobs would emerge successfully from his financial difficulties.

Secretary Bruce Stovall stated that all new TBF affiliates should be receiving their TBF cards in the near future.  He also stated that at the July meeting he will be bringing the Reel to Reel advertisement letter for club distribution; and reminded clubs that more advertisements are needed.

Nick Albano indicated that the Bergen Bassmasters will be holding its 21ST Annual Outing for the Disabled on June 13 and requested and received a $100 donation from the Federation.  The event will be at Darlington County Park for those interested in attending/participating.
