The meeting was called to order at 8:06 p.m. by President Tony Going. Secretary Bruce Stovall was not in attendance.
The following chapters were not in attendance: Bass Assassin 6; Bass Kickers; Bucketmouth; Clearwater; Cullin Bass 6; Essex County; First Generation; Hawg Heaven; Jackson; Lake Hopatcong; Mercer County; New Jersey Bass Hunters; North Jersey Bass Anglers; Raritan Valley; Sunrise; and United.
Based on the lack of a quorum, President Going deemed the meeting legal.
The Minutes from the July 10, 2009 Federation meeting were read by Recording Secretary Nick Angiulo. The minutes were accepted via motion/second.
The Treasury Report was read by Treasurer Jim Bartolotto. The Treasury Report was accepted via motion/second.
The Tournament Report was given by Tournament Director Al Purdy. He indicated that the Greenwood Lake event will be headquartered out of Anton’s on the Lake. There is information on the website regarding the tournament procedures. Al stated that the boat inspection and end of tournament check-in will be on the water next to Anton’s and the launch will be at in front of Chapel Island. Al also indicated that the ramp at Emerald Point should not be used on Sunday since he has been informed that boats will not be able to use the ramp to take boats out until after 7:00 p.m. Al indicated that the Lake Hopatcong event was successful and announced the winners. He stated that the tournament anglers have done a very good job keeping their fish alive this season and there have been very few dead fish. Al also stated that the last event on October 4 at the Flats will be out of Anchor Marine, since the State of Maryland will be doing construction at the Rogue’s Harbor Elk Neck ramp at that time.
Tony indicated that he is unsure whether the Federation will be able to continue to add extra monies and prizes for the 2010 tournament season, given that sponsors are struggling and participation is stagnant. Tony also stated that the location of the 2010 Team Tournament will be either Lake George or Lake Champlain. The decision is up to the membership and will be voted on at next month’s meeting.
Executive Officer/Youth Director Forest Honeywell indicated that he accompanied Jeff Voss and Richard Pennachio to the recent Junior National Championship run by he National Guard and held in conjunction with the Forrest Wood Cup in Pittsburgh. While neither angler advanced, Forest indicated that it was an outstanding event and thanked the Board and the membership for their support. Forest stated that this year’s Junior State Championship will be held on September 19 at Lake Denmark at Picatinny Arsenal. All members are welcome to attend and volunteer boat captains and assistants are needed. Forest also stated that there will be a casting event at the annual Wildlife Heritage Festival on September 26 and 27 at the Pequest Trout Hatchery. Volunteers to help run the event are needed. Forest indicated that he recently held a casting event for over 90 kids (in two hours) at the Cranford Alliance Church. Forest also indicated that he needs a club to sponsor a junior chapter since he has kids who are seeking to be in a junior club.
Treasurer Jim Bartolotto stated that while at the Nationals the parents of the two New Jersey qualifiers relayed their gratitude to the Federation and its membership for the financial support of the Federation.
Tony stated that there are only 3 of the 19 Mustang automatic inflatable PFDs remaining. They are being sold to the membership for $150. First come, first served.
Environmental Director P.J. Bartolotto indicated that the Ramapo College Team is coming along. There is sufficient membership and the paperwork to make it official is in the process of being completed.
Bergen Bassmasters member Nick Albano indicated that the Hudson River Challenge Open Bass event that is being held on the Hudson River on September 27 will be supported by many sponsors, including the Federation. A significant portion of the entries will be donated to the USO of Metropolitan New York. The field is limited to 100 boats. He also stated that the TBF will be running the weigh-in. He distributed entry flyers.
Show Director Joe Poms indicated the dates he currently has for the outdoor shows in the 2010 are: Raritan - January 14 through 17 and Suffern - March 4 through 7. An adult casting competition will be held at the Suffern event. Volunteers to help at the booth and for the casting event are needed. Joe indicated that the Federation may also be running a casting event at the outdoor show in Philadelphia.
A raffle for a pair of Solar Bat sunglasses was held. The winner was Nick Angiulo. The Federation collected $76.
A motion was made and seconded to adjourn the meeting at 8:55 p.m.
